Introduction The University of California, Davis, offers opportunities for study with internationally acclaimed artists and scholars in virtually every area of the performing and visual arts. The academic departments also offer outstanding music, theater, dance, and visual arts performances and shows that are open to the public. UC Davis Arts (http://www.ucdavis.edu/arts_culture/) encompasses programs in Music, Theatre and Dance, Studio Art and Art History, TechnoCultural Studies, Design, and six visual art galleries and museums. These departments and programs present over 100 performances in eight different venues on campus, including the exciting Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, and numerous exhibitions at the Richard L. Nelson Gallery, the Carl N. Gorman Museum, and the Design Museum. UC Davis Arts also includes the campus’ resident performing ensembles, including professional companies—Sideshow Physical Theatre Company and the Empyrean Ensemble—and outstanding student/community groups such as the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra, University Chorus and Chamber Singers, Jazz Band, Gospel Choir, University Concert Band, Early Music Ensemble, and Baroque Ensemble. The university’s arts departments also sponsor many fine artist-in-residence programs, free noon concerts, lecture series, and workshops. And, in partnership with California’s public schools, ArtsBridge, the University of California’s arts outreach program, they work to bring quality arts education to K-12 students.
