Yo-Yo Ma has built his dazzling career on two bedrocks: consummate musicianship and a personal desire for artistic growth and renewal. The former trait is self-evident to anyone who has had the good fortune to hear him play. A skim through his many artistic collaborators reveals his far-flung musical imagination: Chris Thile, Emanuel Ax, Bobby McFerrin, Edgar Meyer, Mark O’Connor, the Assad Brothers and the many musicians from the Silk Road Project. We celebrate our fruitful relationship by presenting Ma in recital with accompanist Kathryn Stott who the Washington Post heralds as “every bit Ma’s equal, playing … with striking individuality.”
